RACISM OR CRIMINALISM :

 Australia gained prominence in the International Education Market more so after the US and UK terrorist attacks. Australia has some world class universities that provide excellent education . The money made by these universites are the 3rd largest contributor to the Australian economy. Foreign students comprises of students from India , China , Malaysia , Middle east , African etc . Among these Indians are the second largest community only after Chinese. Over 95k indian students study in Australia most of them are from middle class backgrounds of Bihar , Punjab , Chandigarh etc who plan to settle down in Australia as immigration is easy compared to US and UK. Apparently Australian universities provide enhanced security and safety to the foreign students compared to US and UK. So why have been over 400 odd indians been attacked in australia in 2009 alone. Is this Racist attacks or Criminal attacks ?? Why Indians ?? Are the white australians responsible ?? What about safety and security ?? Ok so let me answer these important questions in a bottom up approach ie starting from the last question. According to Australian universities SAFETY AND SECURITY is provided only to those students who stay in university hostel provided in campuses . Only the top ranked colleges provide hostel facilites for foreign students within campus limits. Problem here is the common indian joins any university in australia paying full fees while australians have subsidised fees. So the foreign students find homes for themselves. And Australia cities like melbourne , sydney are compared at par with Newyork , London . So finding homes is not that easy for a foreign student . They find homes in suburbs . To earn a little extra they work part time in fast food joints and groceries . So they end up walking home late on the suburbs streets . How can that be safe moreover with laptops and phones with them , so its easy to rob them. Students become ' soft targets ' . Next question WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE ?? Not many people who have been attacked have spoken out. Those who did say they were attacked by whites , blacks , lebanese . So it wasnt the australians atleast not it all 400 odd cases. There intention was to steal and they used racial terms to get it done . Does it mean they were racial attacks. We cannot expect the mugger to address us with our names and then steal. It would be funny if a mugger comes up to you asks your name then proceeds to rob us( just imagine ). The media is spreading the news ' Racist Attacks in Australia ' . Then why is that money and other valuable items are stolen? . Think of this , in film ' Love aj kal ' Saif was attacked by mugger and his valuables was stolen , similar in film ' Newyork ' john was attacked when he went chasing muggers for kats vanity bag. This is what been happening in australia as well. Next question WHY INDIANS ?? Majority of attacks have been only on people living in far away suburbs. There are many Indians living in good neighbourhood , they are not attacked . Why? Indians are not attacked but students living in suburbs are attacked. Students , part time workers who live there with a sense of insecurity are attacked it could be a black , white , brown or Indian , Chinese , Saudi etc . Next question ' RACISM OR CRIMINALISM '. Ask me, its criminals attacks with the help of racist slangs used for stealing money . So its always " BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY " . So it brings us to the point ' ARE AUSTRALIA RACISTS ??? '. NO.... However the Indian media has branded Australia as RACISTS . I think first we need to look at our past . The Babri Masjid demolition. The Godhra turmoil . The number of cases of deaths and rapes of foreign people in India . The communal violence between hindus and muslims . We still try and find suitable bride / bridegroom from the same caste , inter castes marriages are happening .Still Sonia Gandhi is called an Italian. Keralites are called 'Mallus'. People from Andhra are called ' Goltis '. Southindians are generally addressed 'Madrasi' . Bengalis are 'Bongs'. East indians are ' Chinkis' . Muslims are called ' pakis ' or ' Turks ' or 'Terrorists '. There are numerous examples. Let me not induce racism . So ARE WE RACIST ALSO ???. The racists attacks have found strong support from VHP ( vishwa hindu parishad) and Siva Sena. The VHP has demanded the safety of all Hindus( not indian christians or muslims ) in Australia . The Siva Sena is threatening to take revenge on australians travelling to Maharashtra. The same Siva Sena which decided to shut out all non - Maharashtrians from Maharashtra . It all brings to the BIG QUESTION " ARE WE NOT RACIST ???" . This post concerns with my views only. . Please feel free to add your comments. :-) --
